Letter: What do the experts say?

By Davis Evans, Vancouver

I hear politicians and columnists railing against transgender girls competing in girls’ sports. And I also hear transgender advocates saying that it isn’t fair that they can’t compete.

I have an opinion, but I am not going to share it. I don’t share my opinion because it is just that: an opinion based on no science or research or experience. The people that I don’t hear from in this discussion are people who are experts and can add real information to the argument. I would like to hear from a sports doctor, a trainer, a coach, and athletes of all genders. Then voters could make an informed decision, based on something more than the feelings of whoever can make the most noise.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
