Weather Eye: Get out, enjoy good weather but avoid heat today, tomorrow

Vancouver as of 5 p.m. Saturday recorded another 90 degree high with 92 degrees going into the record books. That is the first 90 degree high so far this month after the cool down as August rolled in. We will have another 90 degree high today, Monday and maybe Tuesday. If winds are aligned correctly, we could reach 100 degrees. Regardless, 98, 99 or 100 they all are in the hot category.

That pesky low off the California coast that I keep mentioning appears to finally make a move inland Tuesday night and bring a chance of showers or thunderstorm. That would be refreshing even if it wakes you up. We’ll see, these cutoff lows wander around on their own accord and are difficult to pinpoint at times. The good news is it will be good to get it out of the atmospheric flow of things.

After that passing, that will bring us seasonal temperatures in the low to mid-80s the rest of next week. Perfect summer weather and good days for the fair. I’m hearing from so many of you about your garden bounties. I’m in luck too as that 100 degree heat east of the Cascades has flooded the supermarkets with those juicy Hermiston watermelons. Enjoy them while you can.

Good news and bad news on the Perseid meteor shower coming up. It is expected to peak on Thursday and Friday. The clouds associated with that pesky low should be out of the area so that is good news. The not so good news is we will be having the full Sturgeon Moon at the time and that will brighten the skies.

The “Dog Days” of summer are coming to an end Thursday. I’m afraid summer is waning at a good clip now as we lose minutes of daylight each day. So get out and enjoy the good weather but stay out of the heat today and tomorrow.
