Letter: Where are Clark County voters?

In the opinion of The Columbian’s Editorial Board, “Voters have stepped up to meet evident need” (The Columbian, Aug. 4). Citing the fact that initial election results showed Proposition 11 was passing with 60 percent of the vote, they applauded that Clark County voters are willing to pitch in for the common good.

While the statement that “voters” are willing to pitch in is accurate, it is also misleading. Given that voter participation on Proposition 11 was an abysmal 32 percent of all eligible voters as of the most recent count, this proposition only passed with a measly 19 percent of the total eligible voting population.

This result does not reveal overwhelming support. This clearly provides an overwhelming insight into an underwhelming voter participation level.

Clark County voters, where are you?
