Letter: Restore pride in community

By Boyd Williams, Vancouver
Published: August 21, 2022, 6:00am

I’ve owned a home and lived in Vancouver for over 55 years and recently returned after being gone for six months. What a novel idea it was to place the homeless with RVs and campers in the former Park & Ride on 137th Avenue and N.E. 18th Street. Like kind deserve to live with like kind. I also noticed camp orchards near Toyota and Gher Road. Tents and sleeping bags accompanied by shopping carts and tarps.

I did not see where those homeless were placed that only had a blanket or jacket. It would appear that segregation is working in Clark County. It also appears no one has a plan to reduce homelessness. Out of sight, out of mind. That’s worked well in Chicago, a beautiful city where the Democratic leaders have been content to keep poverty, crime and murders on the South Side.

We need restored pride in our community to really deal with the issues. Mow your grass, pick up your trash, take care of weeds along the curbs. Everyone should do their best to make Vancouver beautiful.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
