I’d like to thank The Columbian for addressing the need for accountability regarding student loan debt (“In Our View: Biden must address student loan debt,” The Columbian, Aug. 24).
As a baby boomer, I started to college on the G.I. bill after serving in the Navy. Later, as I could afford it, I paid tuition to graduate from Clark. Later as I continued my career, my employer assisted with tuition allowing me to graduate from WSU Vancouver. It was always “pay as you go” and manage your debt, as I was taught. Personal finance apparently needs to be taught as a mandatory part of the high school curriculum, and accountability for debt repayment.
There is a book titled “When Helping Hurts” by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert that would help our politicians do a better job of managing our country.
