I want to extend a thank you to Bonnie Brasure for being so open with The Columbian about her expenses and her labor challenges. The article on Bleu Door was both horrifying and heartbreaking (“Prices rising faster than dough,” The Columbian, Aug. 25).
The hospitality industry has always been low margin and high maintenance. However, I’m sure Ms. Brasure would agree that when you have the pleasure of personally creating a dish or a meal which is unique and contributes to a joyful family celebration, it is all worthwhile.
Unfortunately, Ms. Brasure is not alone in facing the problems outlined in the article. The entire industry is suffering. So how can we help?
We can spend our dining dollars at locally owned independent businesses, such as Bleu Door, instead of the national chains.
Please think before you spend. Keep your dollars local and support the entrepreneurs who are contributing to what is so special about Vancouver.
