Letter: ‘Baby bonds’ lack common sense

What will our governor and the Legislature think of next? Electric cars are one thing but that’s a topic for another day. Now, apparently, we will have “baby bonds.” What’s that you say? How about a $150 million annual fund providing a minimum of $4,000 for each child born under the state’s Medicaid program. The “child” would be eligible to access the money between the ages of 18 to 35 to help with his or her education, homeownership and/or medical expenses. And even perhaps for a down payment on an electric car! Whoops, another day. And who gets to fund and maintain the latest handout? That’s right, taxpayers. This nonsense will never stop until we return common sense to government. And that appears to be a long way off in Washington.
