Strings and things

Kennedy Violins, 17720 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., Suite 160, hosts a monthly jam session with musician and teacher Agyei Marshall from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the last Friday of each month. Anyone is welcome to bring a stringed instrument and join the jam session. Marshall will bring sheet music to share and participants can follow along. This is a free event and is open to the public, including those who would just like to listen. For more information about the jam session, call 800-779-0242 or email support@kennedyviolins.com.

Paint with pals

Tap into your artistic side at the Weekly Painting Group in Washougal, which meets every Tuesday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the Washougal Senior Community Center, 1681 C St., Washougal, just behind the library and city hall. The group is free to attend and open to beginning painters as well as experienced or professional artists. Work on new projects and get support from other painters. Those who work in a range of mediums — watercolor, acrylics and oil — are all welcome. For more information, contact Stephanie Chamberlin at steph@marcchamberlin.com.

Musical mansion

There’s still time to see Portland’s Pittock Mansion all decked out for the holidays at 3229 N.W. Pittock Drive. The museum’s “Music Makes the Season” exhibit will be on display through Jan. 4. Take in the sounds of the season through festive, music-themed displays created by volunteer decorators. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Tuesdays, when the mansion opens at noon. Admission is $15.50 for adults, $11.50 for kids and $13.50 for seniors. Children 6 and under are free. Purchase tickets at pittockmansion.org.

Holiday harmonies

The nine-voice male a cappella group Straight No Chaser will perform its 25th anniversary celebration concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Portland’s Keller Auditorium, 222 S.W. Clay St. The concert will feature holiday classics, popular tunes and audience favorites with the group’s signature sense of humor. Tickets range from $25 to $69.50, or $5.50 extra on the day of the show. Get tickets at portland5.com.

Keep growing

Clark Conservation District is hosting its annual Native Plant Sale through Feb. 18. Order plants online at clarkcd.org/native-plant-sale and pick them up in person on Feb. 18 at CASEE, 11104 N.E. 149th St., Brush Prairie. Drive-thru pick-ups will be offered in 30-minute time slots from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and staff members will load plants into vehicles. Plants will be sold in bundles of five conservation-grade plants; prices are per bundle. Packets of pollinator seeds are also available to buy.
