Clark College has hired Maddy Wright as its new women’s soccer coach, the athletic departement announced Thursday.

Wright replaces Peter Pickett, who stepped down in December after five seasons with the Penguins.

Clark has won five straight NWAC South Region titles and its only loss last season was in the NWAC championship match to Peninsula.

“This soccer program has such a tremendous reputation and tradition of excellence, and I cannot wait to join the team and build upon the foundation that has been set,” Wright said in a statement.

Wright, a native of Staten Island, N.Y., joins the Penguins after initiating the first women’s soccer program at Portland’s Multnomah University, which she developed in less than six months. She served as the head coach there for 4 years.

Prior her time at Multnomah, Wright spent two seasons with NCAA Division II Nyack College in Nyack, N.Y., as an assistant coach.

Locally she has coached at Washington Timbers FC, Vancouver Victory FC, Eastside Timbers FC, and Portland Thorns ODP.
