Letter: Wages frustrate workers

In response to Mike Ryland’s “Work ethic is a thing of the past” (Our Readers’ Views, Jan. 26), I think there is some truth to it, but I think one of the main causes may be that wages have been stagnant for 40 years. For those of us over 60, the system worked pretty well. There were living wage jobs available when we got out of high school. But wages have been held down by Republicans for 40 years. It started with Reagan, and continues to this day. Democrats don’t necessarily have the right answers, but at least their entire purpose is not to give tax breaks to the wealthy and suppress wages for the rest. It’s time to try different policies that more fairly distribute wealth in this country. I think people will be motivated to work when they can afford to pay their rent from their salary. In the meantime, they are frustrated as hell, and end up voting for the likes of Donald Trump as a result! Not unlike the same way Hitler got his start.
