WALNUT GROVE — Because of the success of the recent #BettyWhiteChallenge fundraiser that was held in honor of the late actress and animal lover, local cats are able to receive lifesaving surgeries and other important medical care.

The no-kill shelter nonprofit Furry Friends participated in the Jan. 17 event.

As of Jan. 26, the challenge had raised $6,500, and some checks were still coming in. In a news release, Furry Friends said it is thankful for Betty White for her enduring legacy of love and advocacy for animals of all shapes and sizes, and endlessly grateful for the continued support of its community, both new and returning patrons.
