A scoreless second quarter proved pivotal for the Heritage girls basketball team as the Timberwolves fell to Auburn Riverside 52-47 in a 3A bi-district loser out game.

The Timberwolves, playing in their first playoff game in 20 years, jumped out to a 17-14 lead after one quarter But then went scoreless in the second, falling behind 20-17 at halftime.

Auburn Riverside stretched its lead to 34-23 after three quarters. Heritage tallied 24 points in the final period, but it wasn’t quite enough to catch the Ravens.

“This one hurts,” Heritage coach Jacob Kaler said. “We had opportunities. Their press and zone (defense) gave us problems. Still, I’m proud of this group of girls.”

Keanna Salavea led the Timberwolves with 21 points.
