Host Sumner jumped out to a 15-2 lead after the first quarter and Skyview couldn’t catch up, falling 52-41 on Saturday in an elimination game of boys 4A bi-district basketball tournament.
Skyview (7-9) made a game of it by outscoring the Spartans over the last three quarters.
“We just couldn’t get anything to go in the first quarter,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “Got some good looks early, but couldn’t get out of the hole we dug ourselves into.”
Sumner took a 24-10 lead into halftime.
Colton Looney led Skyview with 15 points, which included going 7 for 7 from the free-throw line.
As a team, Skyview was 14 for 18 on free throws.
“It was a great high school basketball atmosphere,” Gruhler said. “We looked a bit shell shocked in our first road playoff experience. Once we settled down, we outscored them after the first quarter.”
