Letter: Repair Washougal park

Campen Creek Park is a wonderful asset for the City of Washougal. I would like to let Columbian readers know of a problem there that has been waiting too long for a solution. A beautiful trail linking the two sections of the park has been blocked by the closing of a bridge near the crossing of the creek. At first a sign said it was for repairs. That was many months ago, with no repair activity anywhere evident. Now the bridge has been fenced off with a No Trespassing sign. The bridge looks somewhat less than level, but if a car could make it down the trail, the bridge looks solid enough to hold it.

Many of us who enjoy the park and the trail across the creek would appreciate the Washougal Parks Department giving prompt attention to what has been neglected for so long. If the bridge cannot be quickly or easily replaced, it seems like it could certainly be reopened without any danger to its users, except for an easy repair to part of a hand rail. I have passed this concern to the appropriate city personnel, but I hope to bring more attention to this issue.
