HAZEL DELL — Walk & Knock, the nation’s largest local one-day food drive, recently presented the Clark County Food Bank with a check for $100,000. The cash donation was the second-largest in Walk & Knock history.

The financial contributions from hundreds of Clark County residents were part of the volunteer organization’s annual food drive, which took the form of Drive & Drop again in December due to COVID safety concerns. The drive also netted more that 104,000 pounds of food.

“We are again humbled at the generosity of people here in Clark County,” said Walk & Knock President Tom Knappenberger. “Every dollar contributed provides four meals for those in need. These food and cash donations equal 486,320 meals for folks here in Clark County.”

Knappenberger said the donations received through PayPal, check and cash ranged from a few dollars to $50,000. In the past, Walk & Knock received about $10,000 in financial contributions each year. In its previous 35 drives through 2019, Walk & Knock has collected about $300,000 cash.

“Every cent we receive from the community goes directly to the Food Bank for their good work,” Knappenberger said. “We are grateful to our sponsors and civic groups who help our annual drives.”
