Two men suspected in two armed robberies Tuesday morning in Clark County were arrested in Portland.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded at 6:54 a.m. to the parking lot of the SeaMar clinic, 4508 N.E. 20th Ave., for a report of an attempted armed robbery.

Two men in a red Jeep displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s purse. When the person refused to give the men the purse, the men drove off, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Then, at 7:05 a.m. across the street at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, 2211 N.E. 139th St., deputies said the men tried to rob another person. Again, the men displayed a gun in the parking garage. But when the victim refused to give them anything, they drove off, according to the sheriff’s office.

Vancouver police located a car speeding south on Interstate 5 that matched descriptions the victims gave deputies. Police lost sight of the Jeep in traffic, and officers determined the vehicle went south into Portland, the news release states.

About 1½ hours after the Clark County agencies alerted area departments about the armed robbery attempts, Portland police received a report of a person who was robbed at gunpoint, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Portland officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, but it sped away, the agency said. It crashed into another vehicle soon after. That driver was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the Portland Police Bureau said.

Portland police arrested two men but have not released their identities or potential charges.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office’s Tactical Detective Unit is investigating the local robberies.
