Letter: Councilors go against will of people

It seems that the trio of Eileen Quiring O’Brien, Gary Medvigy and Karen Bowerman have a secret pact to vote in unison on every topic that comes before the Clark County Council. Makes one wonder.

Of note are their decisions on fireworks, where they rescinded a late 2020 council decision to ban fireworks in the county, as well as open up sales of fireworks for the recent holiday season where we experienced another irresponsible show of people who just don’t care what the laws are because we don’t have the staff to enforce them.

The Three Musketeers’ decisions, in my opinion, put personal freedom above public safety. In spite of the overwhelming support to ban fireworks in Clark County, they continue to side with those that want to blow off fireworks at the expense of those people and animals who are terrorized by them, me and my cat included. There are other, less noisy ways we can celebrate the nation’s birthday, and the New Year if we are creative. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

The will of the majority of the current council on the fireworks issue to change is not there. Time to elect someone who more represents our will.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
