Interstate 5 was closed at Milepost 14.2 near Ridgefield due to police activity late Wednesday morning, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

The Washington State Department of Transportation reported all lanes were blocked due to an earlier collision in the southbound lanes. The collision was reported at 11:08 a.m.

Lanes began to reopen about 12:15 p.m. and were completely reopened shortly thereafter.

The Washington State Patrol, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement responded.

Traffic quickly backed up in both directions and was diverted off the freeway at Exit 14. Shortly after noon, traffic southbound was stopped back to La Center and northbound traffic was slow to state Highway 502.

Northbound traffic was largely back to normal by just before 1 p.m.

Two more collisions — one north and one southbound — kept traffic from clearing southbound, with the backup stretching to Horseshoe Lake in Woodland. There was no information on injuries.
