Letter: New license not discriminatory

By Brad Thomason, Battle Ground

In “New license is burdensome” (Our Readers’ Views, Jan. 22), Mary Sobolewski likened Washington’s enhanced licensing process to “reverse discrimination.” The enhanced license is not required for driving. By May 3, 2023, anyone who wishes to fly in the United States will need a Real ID-compliant document, which includes an enhanced license. Participation in a voluntary program with the same standards for all is in no way discriminatory. The “illegal immigrants” that Ms. Sobolewski so disparagingly refers to will not qualify to fly anywhere in the United States. Based on the content of her letter, I would think Ms. Sobolewski would like this.
