Prep Roundup: Hockinson girls seal victory late

Hockinson hit 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal a key 59-40 win over Mark Morris in a 2A Greater St. Helens League girls basketball game on Monday.

“I’m super proud of my girls tonight,” Hockinson coach Damon Roche said. “They responded well tonight after receiving a beat-dwon at Mark Morris last Thursday.”

Hockinson held a 39-38 lead early into the fourth quarter when the Monarchs went cold.

“A couple of tough bounces here and there, and before we knew it, they had a 10-point lead and we had to start fouling to try and come back,” Mark Morris coach Sean Atkins said.

Kyle Ritter led the Hawks with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists. Gracie Brammer added 14 points, four rebounds, four steals and six assists.

Isabella Merzoian lead Mark Morris with 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Emma Fisher added 11 points and nine rebounds.

The win gave Hockinson a two-game lead in the loss column as the Hawks try to hang onto third place in the 2A GSHL.

Girls basketball

CAMAS 80, BATTLE GROUND 20 — Ava Smith had 15 points and Addison Harris had 12 points — all comingin the first half as the Papermakers built a 59-14 lead. Candice Adams had nine points for Battle Ground.

SKYVIEW 58, HERITAGE 34 — Skyview used defensive pressure to jump out a 22-7 lead after one quarter, then cruised to victory.

Rowyn Riley led Skyview with 17 points, and Jordan Labrador-Hallett added 11 points and five assists.

Skylar Groesbeck added 10 points, Brooke Riley had nine rebounds, and Lainey Phillips had eight rebounds.

Keanna Salavea led Heritage with 18 points.

KELSO 68, PRAIRIE 31 — Natalie Fraley scored 18 points, Kenzie Milligan had a career-high 12 points and Kelso remained undefeated in the 3A GSHL.

HUDSON’S BAY 70, COLUMBIA RIVER 34 — Mahaila Harrison scored 22 points and Aniyah Hampton added 20 as the Eagles stayed on course to secure at least a share of the 2A Greater St. Helens League title.

Hudson’s Bay will wrap up its league schedule on Thursday against Woodland. A win would assure Bay of at least of share of the league title, depending on how Washougal finishes out its schedule.

Paytin Ballard added 15 points for Bay. Emma Iniguez led River with 11.

R.A. LONG 39, WOODLAND 38 — Jayla Clark hit two free throws with seven second to play to clinch a postseason berth for R.A. Long.

“We had them right where we wanted them,” Woodland coach Glen Flanagan said. “But then we missed two technical-foul free throws and two front ends of 1-and-1s. Then they hit those two free throws to take their first lead of the second half.”

Miranda Lomax had 19 points to lead R.A. Long.

Riley Stading led Woodland with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Emily Hughes added 10 rebounds and three assists.

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 59, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 44 — Laurel Quinn hits six 3-pointers and was 4 for 4 from the free throw, finishing with 28 points in Trico League win over the Bruins.

Three of Quinn’s 3-pointers came in the fourth to help King’s Way seal away the win.

Riley Philbrook added 11 for King’s Way. Sydney Aman led Columbia-White Salmon with 11.

SETON CATHOLIC 51, MOUNTAIN VIEW 47 — Seton Catholic scored all its points in the overtime period from the free-throw line, going 7 of 9.

Hannah Jo Hammerstrom led Seton with 18 points, and Maddie Willis and Lauryn Bowyer added 10 each.

Victoria Schneider had 16 to lead Mountain View, and Katelyn Henderson added 12.

Boys basketball

KELSO 61, PRAIRIE 49 — Michael Foust and Chase Johnson each scored 12 points and the Hilanders rode a strong first half to a 3A GSHL road win.

Kelso led 27-16 at halftime and 44-26 after three quarters. The Hilanders improved to 5-0 in league play ahead of a showdown against 4-1 Mountain View on Wednesday.

“They were certainly very aggressive defensively,” Prairie coach Jimmy Tuominen said. “Kelso did a good job running out and getting some easy baskets in the third quarter. That was the difference.”

Hayden Rose scored 24 points to lead the Falcons (4-9, 2-4).

SKYVIEW 71, HERITAGE 57 — Colton Looney scored 22 points and Robert Rean added 14 as the Storm hit 11 3-pointers in a road win.

Dominic Wakeland added 10 points for the Storm. Quincy Gill led Heritage with 13.

SETON CATHOLIC 66, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 43 — The Cougars outscored the Bruins 26-4 in the first quarter en route to a Trico League home win.

Brady Angelo and Rico George each scored 13 points for Seton Catholic (13-3, 5-1). The win sets up a showdown against King’s Way Christian (10-4, 5-1) on Tuesday that will likely decide the Trico League title.

Carson Lanz scored 17 points to lead the Bruins (0-12, 0-5).
