The Gee Creek rest area on Interstate 5 south at Milepost 13 was closed for hours due to police activity Friday morning, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

WSDOT said on Twitter that the rest area, north of the Clark County Fairgrounds, was closed at 4:49 a.m. Friday. It reopened shortly before noon.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office was called to the area at 4:18 a.m. for a report of a brandishing. Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue was called to the scene shortly before 6 a.m.

According to emergency radio traffic monitored in The Columbian newsroom, police were trying to contact a man they believe was holed up in a trailer at the rest area. SWAT has been called to the scene.

The person in the trailer apparently has a felony  warrant.
