Three families were displaced Thursday night after their duplex in Vancouver’s Cascade Park neighborhood caught fire.

The Vancouver Fire Department responded at about 10:45 p.m. to the 600 block of 132nd Avenue. The first crews to arrive found heavy smoke and fire and stretched hose lines to begin extinguishing the fire from the exterior, according to an agency news release.

Crews initially called for a second alarm but later canceled it, the fire department said.

As more crews arrived, firefighters went inside the duplex and found the fire had spread to the attic, the news release said.

Firefighters cut a hole in the roof in order to help with interior fire conditions, the news release states. They got the fire under control in about 25 minutes.

No one was injured, and the Red Cross was called to help three families, according to the news release.

Twenty-six firefighters responded and spent about four hours at the scene, the department said.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
