Letter: Make voice heard by voting

One of the most serious issues our legislators must address is bipartisan development and passage of well- articulated, commonsense and enforceable gun control. We must not be desensitized by the regular, horrific murder of innocent people in our schools and society. The voice of reason and the will of the people must swell to overcome the entrenched control of the gun lobbies. And voters need to make their voices heard by their current congressmen and congresswomen and hold them accountable for managing the legislation that stabilizes our society.

This election year, follow a few simple guidelines for supporting a candidate: 1) Research incumbents’ voting records. Do they add value to issues or vote the party line?
2) Research new candidates’ agendas, who funds their campaign and if they will meet face to face with constituents to discuss platforms and issues; 3) Check information in campaign ads for substance and truth. Remember the simple rule: If it sounds too good to be true, it almost certainly is;
4) Whether your focus is gun control, climate change, health care or saving Social Security, vote as if your life depended on it. It very well might.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
