Letter: Thoughts and prayers not adequate

“Save the babies in the womb” is the battle cry, and yet “save the babies in the classroom” is a whimpering statement in our history books. How much more collateral damage are we willing to allow? Those in power do not care. Those whose pockets are lined with blood money from the NRA will solemnly say, “Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are suffering.”

Remember your “thoughts and prayers” when you greet your child after school, while the parents of murdered schoolchildren will never have that moment again.

Bulletproof backpacks. Teachers with guns. More security on school campuses. Active-shooter drills.

At 331 schools, a total of 311,000 children have been exposed to gun violence the since the Columbine High massacre in 1999.

“Thoughts and prayers” is just another term for “I don’t care.” Admit it.

America does not care for its children. Thoughts and prayers are not the answer. Just ask the parents of the dead.
