Letter: Open season on humans

Headlines we see regularly: 21 dead in school shooting, 10 dead in grocery store shooting, 12 dead in movie theater shooting. The list goes on ad nauseam. The gun lobby says that guns don’t kill people, that people kill people. But, the gun is the most preferred method and the gun lobby seems to be encouraging “open season” on humans. It makes sense, there are only so many places to hunt, it requires a license, the right season and most hunters already have their preferred rifle for the sport they do. To continue to sell these assault weapons they need a new target and humans are everywhere.

So, my answer to the statement that only people kill people is this: We don’t see these headlines: 21 dead in school strangling, 10 dead in grocery store banana peel attack causing massive head injuries, 12 dead in movie theater stabbing. The Second Amendment was never for individuals to have private guns to shoot one another but for the ability of the U.S. to form a militia to protect itself. Kudos to the Hillsboro, Ore., man who decided his second-grade daughter is more important than his Second Amendment, and turned his assault rifle in for destruction.
