Letter: Update barriers on state Highway 14

By Ron Rushford, Vancouver
Published: June 7, 2022, 6:00am

The over half-century-old Jersey barriers dividing state Highway 14 are functionally obsolete and have become contributing factors to increasing accidents and speed. Studies have shown that damaged, littered roadways lead to increased speeding and accidents. Drivers want to get through unpleasant roadways ASAP.

People who have been away from Vancouver are saddened by the look of our roadways. The image of Vancouver has been going downhill for years. We were designated an “All American City” in the ’60s. It would be nice and beneficial to regain that status.

Modern, sealed, Jersey barriers will pay for themselves in less accidents, upkeep and add value to our quality of life.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
