Construction of an 18-hole disc golf course, pedestrian bridge and shelter is underway at Hockinson Meadows Community Park. Clark County Public Works began work on the project in May. Public Works expects to begin significant field work at the park later this month, pending delivery of needed building materials.
The disc golf course is being built on a 40-acre parcel of park land separated by a stream from developed park areas. The pedestrian bridge will provide access to the course, which was designed to meet Professional Disc Golf Association standards. Each hole will include a tee pad, hole marker, basket and bench. Trails throughout the course will consist of multiple surface types, connecting to the park’s existing trail system and adding 1.01 miles of trail to the park. A 225-square-foot shelter will also be constructed near the disc golf course and pedestrian bridge.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of September, weather permitting. The work is not expected to impact traffic in the area, but Public Works warns park users accessing the adjacent playground may occasionally be affected.
Funding for the project, which is estimated at $455,169, comes from real estate excise taxes and park impact fees. Additionally, disc golf players raised $3,500 through the Parks Foundation of Clark County.
