Letter: Ways to slow dangerous driving

The police suggest Democrats are responsible for an increase in the number of people who flee when police attempt to pull them over. Bad behavior by young people is nothing new. The Democrats did not recently create it. The current spate of irresponsible driving is a serious problem, one that won’t be solved by more finger-pointing. A serious effort would include: 1) far more stringent laws and penalties; 2) prioritizing enforcement of these laws; 3) hefty surcharges on the cars specifically designed to facilitate street racing (a very profitable market segment); 4) class action suits against the gaming industry for modeling this type of activity; 5) class action suits against Hollywood studios who continue to romanticize it; and 6) increased mental health counseling for all concerned.

I am not persuaded that 100 mph chases through crowded urban corridors guns-a-blazing constitute an effective solution.
