Letter: Congress should act quickly

I was reading the June 9 paper, and getting madder by the second.

I’ve known Congress is full of a bunch of arrogant, stubborn men and women, who don’t do anything fast, until you read the headlines today.

Front page first thing in bold typeset: “Congress urged to end gun violence.” Uh-huh. How many ways can you say that over the decades? The man interviewed says, “My mother’s life mattered. Your actions here will tell us if and how much it mattered to you.” Evidently not so much.

Turn to Page 6: “U.S. wins case to seize Russian yacht in Fiji, sails away,” and “wasted no time in taking command of the $325 million vessel and sailing it away.”

So, gun control vs. a Russian yacht. Guess we know where their priorities lie, and it makes me extremely sad and sick to my stomach how little they value people’s lives.

What is it going to take to wake these people up? These shootings everywhere are not video games, it’s reality. Hopefully, it’s not going to take a senseless act to one of their families to get their attention.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
