Letter: Purpose of Fort Vancouver is lost

Fort Vancouver has become a sideshow. Under the direction of Congress, the National Park Service has carefully and accurately re-created the Hudson Bay Company’s Fort Vancouver, a marvel of the wilderness in the 1840s. The purpose of this re-creation is to cause the observer to reflect, imagine, wonder and inspire — but not to amuse. Not for an airfield for the wealthy class, not for baseball games, camporee, not as a venue for live music nor a WWI encampment. Fort Vancouver is to be used for one purpose only: to revive and use the site as it was during its historic period. And only that.
