One person is dead after a shooting Monday night at a home north of Battle Ground, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

A statement from the sheriff’s office said someone from a house at 33510 N.E. Kelly Road called 911 shortly after 7 p.m. to report that he had shot his roommate.

The caller said he and his roommate had drawn guns on each other, and that his roommate had been killed in a resulting exchange of gunfire, according to the sheriff’s office statement.

Deputies arriving on scene detained the caller without incident and found a male dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, the statement said. The victim’s identity was withheld pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

The statement said the shooter was cooperative and has not been placed under arrest. It said the case remains under active investigation by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit.

The sheriff’s office did not release the name of the shooter, but it said there are no outstanding suspects and no danger to the public.
