Letter: Hearings preach to the choir

At my age, nearly 80, I’m fortunate to be able to recognize the many blessings I’ve experienced over those years. Since life is filled with ups and downs, it’s not remarkable that I’ve lived through any number of horrors too: the terror of 9/11, the COVID pandemic that has already killed over a million of my fellow citizens, and the Jan. 6 insurrection that aimed to topple the government of my country.

I’m not optimistic that the findings of the Jan. 6 committee will change many minds; rather, they’ll result in “preaching to the choir.” The legions of Trump supporters (Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, QAnon folks) will not be watching the hearings with open minds; if their TVs are on at all, they’ll be tuned in to Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
