Letter: Democracy is under attack

Our democracy is precious and fragile. It survives and thrives only through our civic engagement. The Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at our U.S. Capitol was an egregious assault on this democracy. The event was planned by our former president in a deliberate attempt to overturn the legitimate election of Joe Biden. And the January 6 Select Committee hearings this month are reinforcing that fact with solid evidence.

We must unite across the political spectrum to preserve and strengthen our democracy by holding accountable those who participated in this insurrection. We must also elect public officials who pledge to advocate voting rights for all Americans.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
