OLYMPIA — A Lewis County man was killed Saturday night after an approaching car swerved to avoid a deer, according to Washington State Patrol.

The man’s name was released after his family was notified. The State Patrol identified him as Eric C. Campbell, 44, of Pe Ell, Lewis County.

About 11:30 p.m., Campbell and his passenger were headed east on State Route 6 in Lewis County, west of Pe Ell. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old Raymond boy was headed west.

Troopers say the Raymond driver swerved to avoid a deer and crashed into Campbell’s vehicle. He died at the scene.

His passenger, a 50-year-old Pe Ell woman, was injured and taken to Providence Centralia Hospital.
