Letter: Vote to support Constitution

John Michael Luttig is an American lawyer, a former United States circuit judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals, a leading conservative thinker and a member of the Republican Party who was on the short list for the Supreme Court under President George W. Bush. He was born in Tyler, Texas.

During the televised hearings of the Jan. 6 commission, Judge Luttig discussed the danger that Donald Trump and his followers in the Republican Party pose to democracy by not only continuing to deny the legal and overwhelming win of President Biden — the Big Lie — but also working behind the scenes to make sure that any win by a Democrat — no matter how legitimate — can be perverted.

He reiterated this judgment on a recent NPR show “All Things Considered.” He said, “The former president and his party are today a clear and present danger for American democracy.” He went on to say, “We cannot have in America either political party behaving itself like the Republican Party has since the 2020 election.”

Before you vote for any candidate who supports the Big Lie, please consider the words of this noted conservative Republican and vote instead for someone who supports our Constitution.
