Two proposals to extend the seasons for basketball, baseball and softball were rejected as the WIAA Representative Assembly passed four amendments, the WIAA announced Monday.

The Representative Assembly voted approve proposals to combine five eastside districts into two districts, eliminate the “no position” voting option for Representative Assembly members, allow students to retain the full number of practices previously completed upon return from an extended absence, and allow a student to be placed on academic probation at the start of the fall season if the student failed to meet grade requirements in the second semester or third trimester of the previous school year.

Two other proposals were rejected by the assembly.

One would increase the season limit for baseball and softball from 20 games to 22 games by allowing a non-league doubleheader to be counted as one plus a two-game tournament to be counted as another one game.

Another proposal rejected would have allowed basketball teams to count one in-season tournament of up to four games to be counted as one contest toward the 20-game limit.

To gain approval, a proposal must receive at 60 percent support of the Representative Assembly or 21 votes. The proposal to increase baseball/softball seasons received two votes in support, while the proposal to extend the basketball seasons received 15 votes.
