Letter: County council ignores the public

I have been watching the county redistricting process with concern and horror since it started. This last map, C2, is the furthest from the map that voters approved in November, and is put forth to keep the chair in “her” district. The districts don’t belong to councilors, they belong to the people. The same people maligned by Gary Medvigy as incapable of understanding the Voters’ Pamphlet and making good decisions based on clear information.

The council has ignored public comment and is ignoring the will of the voters. Watching them blame the charter, the redistricting committee, and the public for their own failure is nauseating. Corruption is alive and well on the Clark County Council, and the still to be formed Ethics Commission is unlikely to be able to do much about it. I encourage everyone who cares to attend the public hearing tonight, (Wednesday, May 11), at 8:30 p.m., online or in person.

And remember, elections matter.
