Letter: Consider cost of Republican vote

By Sylvia Thornburg, Vancouver
Published: November 2, 2022, 6:00am

Republican candidates emphatically cite the very real economic pain of inflation. But before you vote, consider how long gas prices will be high. Six months? A year?

Now consider two other announced Republican agenda items: a national abortion ban and gutting Social Security. An unplanned pregnancy when abortion is not legal will result in over 18 years of costs for that new baby’s food, health care, clothing, child care, etc., or child support. Social Security cuts will also create real economic pain. And that pain, too, will last decades longer than the current price of eggs or gas.

Think carefully about what your Republican vote might really cost.
