Ferrill Johnson scampered for a 12-yard touchdown in the first overtime and the Raymond-South Bend Ravens kept the Kalama Chinooks out of the end zone on the next possession to win a thrilling 48-42 Distric 4 2B crossover game at Chinook Stadium.

Kalama saw its season end despite a herculean effort by sophomore quarterback Aiden Brown.

Brown rushed 32 times for 341 yards and five touchdowns on the evening for the Chinooks, who finished the season 4-6 in defense of their 2B state title.

The Ravens (8-2) qualified for the state playoffs which start next week.

Johnson started the game off with a bang for Raymond-South Bend, returning the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown.

Both teams combined for 70 points and nearly 500 yards of total offense in the first half as Raymond-South Bend took a 36-34 lead into halftime.

The second half turned into more of a defensive battle as the two teams scored just 14 points with neither side scoring in the fourth quarter.

Kalama won the toss and elected to start on defense in overtime but couldn’t keep the Ravens out of the end zone.

The Chinooks took over on offense but failed to make a first down, sealing the win for Raymond-South Bend.

Johnson ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries. Ty Reidinger added 88 yards for the Ravens.

Dylan Jones recovered three fumbles for Kalama, and ran one of those back for a 16-yard touchdown. The future looks bright for the Chinooks who lose just two seniors from this year’s squad.
