Letter: Fate of democracy on ballot

By Beth Harrington, Vancouver

Our country is faced with an election shockingly full of Trump-like/Trump-endorsed candidates, many in our own backyard, as embodied by Joe Kent. We cannot afford to let Kent and his ilk win. Their extremist, intolerant, authoritarian, fear-mongering positions are moving us toward a place that — history tells us — is fatal for free society.

This election, I’m making a particular plea to the sane, thoughtful, “old school” moderate Republicans and independents to rise to the occasion and support Marie Gluesenkamp Perez for the 3rd Congressional District. You can make the critical difference in the fate of our democracy.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
