Letter: Build a tunnel, not a bridge

By Pat Campbell, Vancouver
Published: November 8, 2022, 6:00am

Look. The overriding purpose of a new Columbia River crossing is to replace an ancient, inadequate, dangerous bridge and connect I-5 South to I-5 North and Highway 14. It’s not to make a trip to downtown Vancouver or Jantzen Beach. Period.

Do a tunnel like was done in Seattle, Seoul, South Korea, or New York City that faced similar constraints.

“Downtown” Vancouver is not a priority destination to those living in east Vancouver, Camas, or Olympia.

Tunnel. Get it done already.
