Creative inspiration

Washougal-area artists are opening their studio doors for holiday shopping from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Washougal Studio Artists Tour Holiday Market includes five stops and features 15 local artists. Art for sale includes mixed media, alcohol ink, fiber art and handwoven rugs, fused and enameled glass, collage art, jewelry, watercolor and pastel, metalwork and acrylic paintings. The self-guided tour is free. Preview artists’ work and see the tour map at www.washougalstudioartists.org.

Jazz it up

The “American Fusion” gala, silent auction and concert is 6-9:30 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 2206 N.W. 99th St., Vancouver. Tap your toes to four jazz sets: a Native American flute and piano duet, a jazzy piano performance by Jasnam Daya Singh of the Portland Chamber Orchestra, a brass ensemble and a blues-infused jam session. Tickets ($35) include catered hors d’oeuvres served by a local Boy Scout troop. Proceeds support local nonprofit programs. RSVP to Carol Sanza at 973-800-9268 or carolsanza@yahoo.com.

Princess and the pea

Prairie High School, 11311 N.E. 119th St., Vancouver, presents the musical comedy “Once Upon a Mattress,” with performances at 7 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday plus a matinee show at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Catchy tunes tell the story of Prince Dauntless and his search for a suitable bride who can pass a series of impossible tests. Tickets are available online at wa-battleground.intouchreceipting.com and cost $6 for students, $15 for adults and $12 for senior citizens. Learn more at facebook.com/PrairieDramaClub. Tickets are also available at the door.

The majesty of music

Memorial Lutheran Church, 2700 E. 28th St., Vancouver, will host a free hymn festival and organ concert 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday. “Our Joy with Music Crowned” features organist Dr. Walter Krueger, composer, recitalist and dean emeritus of the Portland chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Five church choirs and a handbell choir will share anthems and lead the audience in familiar hymns. The hymn-singing will be followed by a reception in the Bethel Wing. Donations are welcome. Get more details at www.mlc.org or call 360-695-7501.

Out of the shadows

Clark College presents the Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama “The Shadow Box,” at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday as well as Nov. 18 and 19 at the Decker Theatre, located on campus at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. Admission is $15 or $12 for seniors. The play follows Joe, Brian and Felicity, who are living out their final days in hospice cottages at a large California hospital. They are questioned by an invisible Interviewer as they talk candidly about their emotional and physical struggles. Buy tickets at clark.edu/academics/programs/dept/theatre/season.php.
