Officials with the city of Camas recently announced that Alan Peters will be Camas’ next community development director.

Peters will assume the position effective Dec. 5. He succeeds Phil Bourquin, who retired in September 2021.

Peters was one of three finalists to interview with city senior leadership and elected officials.

According to Camas Mayor Steve Hogan, while each candidate had the skill set needed for the position, Peters stood out.

“I chose Peters based on the direction I believe the city needs to go and the challenges we have moving forward,” said Hogan. “I think Peters has the skill set we need to not only lead the department, but to also help the employees and the department grow,” he said.

Since 2021, Peters has served as the community development director for Skamania County. During his time in Skamania, Peters has managed county planning, building and fire marshal positions, and the environmental health division for the county. Prior to taking on the director role, Peters worked in Skamania County’s planning department. Peters currently resides in Camas with his wife and daughter.
