In the days after these midterms I kept hearing that “control of Congress is still in doubt.” I disagree.
The control of Congress will remain with thousands of lobbyists, big campaign donors, well-funded special interests of all categories, self-serving political party hierarchies that abhor and punish any cooperation or compromise with the other party. There is no doubt that media consultants, fundraising firms, polling vendors, campaign strategists, special “policy experts,” think tank influencers, focus group analysts, and hundreds of bright and ambitious “aides,” will continue to overpower even the most honorable politician.
This, coupled with a commercial broadcast news media that depends on a sensationalized form of “addictive distraction” to maintain funding from advertisers, should assure both “red” and “blue” voters that Congress will remain safely in the control . . . of big money.
