Letter: Pollsters, pundits underperform

I am done with the political pollsters and pundits. They are the Powerball equivalent in predicting the odds in our elections, and when their predictions are off, they simply profess that the candidate or the party has overperformed or underperformed. In fact, the candidate and the party performed just fine and in accordance with the actual votes cast by real people. Voting is, after all, a human endeavor.

Further, they draw their lines using partisan red and blue pens, making the case that we are hopelessly divided. And when that doesn’t explain things, they turn to using independent voters as the reason that their polls were flawed. I’d like to think that we are all independent voters, and that we cast our votes based on the issues and the candidate qualifications that matter to us. It’s the pollsters and the pundits who have underperformed. They do a disservice to the public good and to our free and fair election system.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
