MEADOW HOMES — Thirty-five volunteers, from grade-schoolers to grandparents, planted 1,333 native plants near Burnt Bridge Creek on Nov. 12 in an ongoing program to protect Clark County streams, lakes and groundwater.

Red twig dogwood, Oregon grape and spirea were among the varieties planted east of Vancouver’s Leverich Park with shrubs that covered the area when Native Americans were the county’s only inhabitants. It was one of the Watershed Alliance of Southwest Washington’s regular October-through-March planting days.

The Alliance works across Clark County, with monthly planting days, beach cleanups, a backyard habitat program and an environmental documentary film series. The next two planting days are Dec. 10 and Jan. 16.

The Alliance’s efforts are supported by donations, grants and volunteers. To learn more about the Alliance and consider volunteering or donating, go to thewatershedalliance.org.
