Re: The article which ran in The Columbian, “Poll: Devout in U.S. less worried about climate change” (Associated Press, Nov. 19):

It is very interesting to hear these statistics. I wonder if many of these people have taken to heart the aphorism, “God helps those who help themselves.”

I wonder if they are familiar with the recent statistics from the National Centers for Environmental Information.

The U.S. has experienced 338 weather and climate disasters since 1980 with overall damages/costs exceeding $2.295 trillion. The severity of climate disasters has dramatically increased and will get worse if we don’t take decisive action.

Katharine Hayhoe, an evangelical Christian and climate scientist, tries to educate all members of the public that climate change requires action.

Citizens Climate Lobby (www.citizensclimatelobby.org) helps bring together people from all backgrounds to lobby our representatives to take action on climate change.

Let us work together to achieve a clean energy future.
