Nicholas Ianello and Adam Watts both rushed for over 100 yards and scored two touchdowns each as the Columbia River Rapids earned their first league win of the season with a 28-7 victory Friday over the visiting R.A. Long Lumberjacks.

The ground game was huge for the Rapids (2-3 overall, 1-2 in 2A Greater St. Helens League) as Columbia River racked up 311 yards rushing.

Ianello rushed for 105 yards — 94 in the second half — and two touchdowns and Watts added 100 yards and two touchdowns of his own.

R.A. Long (0-5, 0-3) took control early on, forcing a Rapids fumble and scored a touchdown on its ensuing possession. A 10-yard pass from Shaun Mize to Theodore Mauricio gave the Lumberjacks an early 7-0 lead.

In the early stages of the second quarter Columbia River answered with Watts scoring on a 3-yard run. Watts added a 5-yard touchdown run just before halftime and gave the Rapids the lead they would never surrender.

Columbia River’s defense also played a big role, holding the Lumberjacks to one yard of total offense in the second half and 51 total yards for the game.

The win broke a three-game losing streak for Columbia River, which plays host to Hockinson next week. R.A. Long travels to Woodland next week.
