Keaton Northcut scored three touchdowns and the Woodland Beavers withstood a wild fourth quarter by keeping the Hockinson Hawks just out of reach for a 29-27 win Friday in the 2A Greater St. Helens League matchup.

Woodland (3-2, 2-1 2A GSHL) showed the diversity in its offense with the run game led by Northcut’s 85 yards and touchdown runs of 35 and 40 yards. He also had 73 yards receiving a 15-yard TD reception.

“We have a really solid line,” said Woodland quarterback Brett Martynowicz, who threw for 160 yards and two TDs. “If it wasn’t for them with great pass protection and run blocking, we wouldn’t be able to get the production we do in both the air and on the ground.

“It adds that dynamic that lets us switch our offensive approach and still move the ball well like how we showed we can do tonight.”

Three touchdown were scored in the final 4:42 of the game, as Hockinson used big plays to put the pressure on Woodland.

Hockinson got within 22-20 when Jarod Oldham connected with John Charles on a 50-yard touchdown play with 3:40 remaining.

Woodland was able to recover Hockinson’s onside kick and scored an insurance TD six plays later for a 29-20 advantage with 1:51 to play.

A couple of big pass plays got Hockinson down to the 1 where Oldham scored on a keeper, and the Hawks trailed 29-27 with 16 seconds on the clock.

Another onside kick by Hockinson was recovered by Woodland to seal the victory for the Beavers.

Oldham ended the game with 250 passing yards and contributed for all of Hockinson’s scores. Tristan Maldonado had six catches for 101 yards for the Hawks.
