Letter: Who will solve current problems?

If you are thinking of letting the economy determine your vote, please consider: The economy does not turn on a dime. Many of the forces causing current inflation are not due to the current administration’s policies. Many are pandemic related.

The previous administration refused to maintain necessary emergency supplies before the pandemic, denied the severity of the issue, and lacked strategy and planning to deal with it. Consequently in two years over 700,000 people died, the economy was shut down, demand for goods plummeted and so the supply stopped. The previous administration made no plans for the demand rebound. When demand outstrips supply we get inflation.

The current administration released massive amounts of gasoline from our strategic reserves and gas prices have come down. It came up with solutions to move goods out of ports and most recently was instrumental in negotiating to keep rail freight moving. Inflation has improved some and while not enough seems headed in the right direction. The economy will rebound.

As I consider my vote, I’m asking: who will help solve current social problems? Who will support the growth of a stable middle class? Who has a plan to restore true representative democracy and make sure that all votes count?
